Subtitle text: In December 2015, leading Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump proposed a temporary but “complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.” Since then, pollsters have asked Americans what they think about his plan. The results from GOP voters were startling.
Text: Around ⅔ of GOP Primary Voters Support Muslim Ban
Percentage of GOP voters who said in primary exit polls that they support Trump’s ban on Muslims, by state. Graph shows that 16 states had an above 60% approval rating for the Muslim Ban: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin. Average Support Across All GOP Exit Polls: 69%. Trump’s ban received the most support from GOP voters in Arkansas & Alabama where 78% supported it. His plan received the least amount of support among Republicans in Michigan where 62% supported it. Still, that’s an incredibly high number.
