Book Talk | Confronting Islamophobia in the Church: Liturgical Tools for Justice

March 18, 2026

In their new book, Confronting Islamophobia in the Church: Liturgical Tools for Justice, Reverend Dr. Anna Piela and Reverend Dr. Michael Woolf examine the Church’s role in fostering anti-Muslim prejudice. The book presents clear insights into how Christian teachings and practices have reinforced harmful stereotypes, while offering practical tools and liturgical resources to help dismantle Islamophobia.

Michael and Anna are a married clergy couple who co-founded Challenging Islamophobia Together Chicagoland, an interfaith solidarity initiative dedicated to confronting anti-Muslim hate. Both are ordained American Baptist pastors, and they are deeply rooted in the Christian tradition and believe that learning from other religions enriches and deepens their own faith.
